ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Revision

As many of you will know the popular ISO 9001:2008 Standard has been revised and we will now be certifying towards the new ISO 9001:2015 edition.

Worldwide, more than 1.1 million certificates have been issued as businesses become more determined to showcase the quality of their products, services and improve the overall customer experience.

The standards are updated every few years to ensure they remain viable and reflective of the business practises of today. The standards are also revised to make sure core standards are in unison, working together towards a common goal.

ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Revision

The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard is one of our most popular standards and has continued to grow in popularity as we all become more environmentally aware.

Due to the developments within environmental management as well as a desire to allow for better integration with the other standards, most notably the ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard, the ISO 14001 has been revised, released at the end of 2015.

The main changes included within the revision include:

  • An increased focus on legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of compliance becomes a requirement upon senior management as opposed to just the Environmental Management representative.
  • Increased focus on continuous improvement which seeks to future proof the standard.
  • Improved integration with other ISO Standards.
  • Introduction of an environmental performance section

Now introduced, companies already certificated to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard will have 3 years grace to satisfy all the requirements of the new revision.

ISO Quality Services will of course be proactive and take the lead with this transition and will contact clients in due course.

You can learn more about these changes by attending our upcoming Environmental Manager Training course on 23rd March 2015.

ISO 14001

Leadership and ISO Certification

So far this year we have seen three of our standards upgraded to 2015 editions. And all of the 2015 editions have one main thing that links them this time; a renewed focus on leadership.

As part of the new ISO 9001:2015 there will no longer be a strong focus on the role of the management representative, instead there will be more of a dialogue with senior management.

This has also carried through into the ISO 14001:2015 where knowledge of compliance becomes a requirement upon senior management as opposed to just the Environmental Management representative.

Senior Management is critical to the success of an ISO Management System as implementing any standard requires strong support from the top. Standards need to be fully embedded into the company and culture, and these initiatives tend to be focused at the top level.

To ensure commitment to a standard, everyone has to be working towards one system and one common goal. Your chosen standards need to be part of the overall company strategy, integrated into a business’ mission statement, company vision and values, of which are set and embodied from the top.

Evidence shows that ISO standards are more likely to be accepted and received if they are embraced by leaders and projected out to the team. Managers also provide resources, meaning they need to understand compliance and what is needed to achieve your commitments. Leaders need to communicate their importance, bringing everyone together towards one efficient way.

Leaders and managers will now be at the forefront of reviews and certification audits. They will need to demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to auditors as a requirement.

Meet Our Team

While it is our job to find out lots about you and your business requirements, we thought that you might like to get to know us a little bit better. Each month we will introduce you to a member of our team, giving you opportunity to learn more about each of us!

Get to know Lauren!

This month you can find out all about Lauren Kebby, our Client Relationship Administrator!

What is your role in the office?
I am a client relationship administrator which means I have a customer facing role. I deal with any support requests client queries that come in to the office, whilst working with clients on a daily basis with their audit schedules and bookings.

What is your favourite thing about working at ISO QSL?
It would have to be the team I work with. Everybody gets along with everyone else, so it’s a great atmosphere when you come into the office. We’re like a big family! It now wouldn’t be the same without everyone here!

Why did you choose this profession?
I believe it was the ideal job for me when I finished university. After graduating with a business degree, it was the perfect opportunity for me to take my professional development further.

Tell us something in the office nobody knows about you.
I used to swim for Worcester County and I swam 5 miles in one evening! I finished this swim on a butterfly stroke.

If you won the lottery what would the first thing you’d do be?
I would travel the world without a doubt. Visiting every country imaginable! I want to be able to see the diverse and beautiful world for myself. I love travelling so this would be the most amazing thing to do.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to be a holiday rep! I’ve always wanted to live abroad because of obviously the sun and the atmosphere. As well as this, I like making people happy so being a holiday rep means I would have been making people’s holidays more enjoyable!

Tell us something you have always wanted to do but have been too scared?
Run the London Marathon but I’m scared of all the hard work and pain leading up to the big run!

As it’s your birthday coming up this month, what is your fondest birthday memory?
My 18th birthday in London at the Hard Rock Café as I was surprised by having to stand on the table in the middle of the restaurant, with my face displayed on the TV whilst the whole restaurant sang Happy Birthday to me! I then got free cocktails and sundaes for my family and me.

What is the best birthday present you have received? Why?
I received a trip to the Harry Potter world from my partners Mum and Dad which has to be my best birthday present so far. As I got a stopover in London and I love Harry Potter so this was perfect!
