Worker injured by fork lift truck

A magistrates’ court in Hartlepool has this month heard how a company has caused one of its employees to become seriously injured and forced to retire early, by a fork lift truck after he was struck in the head by one of the forks.
The Company in question had been contracted to assist the customer to remove a screw conveyor from a mezzanine platform but after the right-hand fork became caught.

During the manoeuvre, pressure caused a bracket to break which released on the vehicle’s forks which sprung upwards and struck the worker on the forehead.

The HSE investigated the incident and found that the contractor had failed to assess the lifting operation and that staff had lacked sufficient training. In addition, the Client was also served with an Improvement Notice for its failure to monitor or control its contractors.

The above demonstrates the importance that having a good health and safety management systems in place. A health and safety management system ensures robust procedures are in place in a business’s areas of highest risk. Internal Auditor Training Alert!

Due to high demand we are going to be holding an Internal Auditor Training Course on the 5th and 6th February 2013 at our new training facilities in our new head office, Worcester.

This is a 2 day course which will cover the theory behind internal auditing as well as a practical audit experience and debrief at a local company. I am happy to share with you all some very exciting news – our very own Catherine Price Client Relationship Office Manager got engaged to her boyfriend Luke over Christmas! This is our first internal ISO engagement and I hope you will all join me in sending your congratulations!
