New Partnership to assist clients with Environmental Permits

westbury-environmental-logo

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of an exciting new partnership that we have formed with a company called Westbury Environmental. This is not only going to be of huge benefit to our clients who already have ISO 14001 with us but those who are also considering the standard for their business.

Westbury Environmental was formed in September 2012 to provide companies in the waste management industry with consultancy services. They have 25 years’ experience of working on environmental issues, including approximately ten years in the field of environmental consultancy and around the same amount of time as environmental advisors within the chemical industry.

Their main area of work is the preparation of Environmental Permit applications to the Environment Agency, a number of different types of Environmental Permits exist but all require the holder to operate in accordance with a written management system, the ISO 14001 for example.

Assessment of compliance, a component of ISO 14001, can be a challenge in light of ever changing environmental regulations.  Westbury Environmental can provide a review of your status against current and forthcoming environmental regulations to ensure continued compliance.

The Environmental Agency takes a risk based approach to the calculation of most fees for Environmental Permits. Significant reductions can be gained in both application and annual subsistence charges if the applicant has an ISO14001 environmental management system. Such financial benefits are set to be accompanied by a lighter regulatory touch by the Environment Agency for those sites that represent a lower or reduced risk through the implementation of a robust environmental management system.

This means that if you have your ISO 14001 standard with us, or you are considering putting it in place, then the savings and knowledge provided by this partnership will be of benefit to your business.

If you would be interested in getting in touch with Westbury Environmental to take advantage of preferential rates on their services for all ISO Quality Services Ltd.’s clients, please contact Jennifer Appleton on 01905 670303.

Snow Policy – Do you have one?

snowflakeIn light of the recent adverse weather conditions employers are being advised that they should put in place an “adverse weather” or “journey to work” policy dealing with such issues as the steps that employees are required to take in order to get to work in adverse weather and the consequences of lateness/absence. This policy would help leave much less scope for confusion and disagreement.

Employers also should not be seen to encourage their employees to travel in dangerous weather during work hours or when travelling to and from work. The employer would not normally be liable for the acts of their employees on the commute to and from work however the courts have shown an increasing willingness to hold an employer liable when the act outside of work i.e. commute is closely connected with what the employers authorised or expected.

ISO Quality Services Ltd are proud to specialise in the implementation and certification of the Internationally recognised ISO and BS EN Management Standards.
