14 Sep, 2021

IIRSM is a professional membership organisation for those responsible for managing risks in all their forms. And our vision is a future where people live and work in a safer, healthier and more sustainable world.

We’re independent and speak freely, championing risk management to drive positive change for both employee and organisational wellbeing. And we do this through setting standards, connecting people and organisations, and providing practical education, training, advice and resources.

Our community of members, in more than 90 countries, represents all risk disciplines, including:

  • Compliance
  • Environmental Management
  • Health and Safety
  • Insurance
  • Internal Audit
  • Quality Management
  • Security
  • Project Management
  • and much, much more

And our community is united around a common desire to use risk management to make better decisions in business, both in operations but also strategically too.

Our members work in all areas of risk, at every level, playing a vital role in keeping people and organisations safe,  healthy and resilient. And we support our members, from student to fellow, by providing practical education, resources and opportunities to share experiences and network.

Our aim is to help people and organisations identify and manage risk to succeed in the many challenges they face. And we support their development through the IIRSM Risk Management and Leadership Competence Framework.

This ground-breaking framework was developed through extensive consultation with industry and it underpins our membership and training and development activities.

IIRSM strongly believes that everyone is responsible for managing risks and should have the skills to be able to do so. Organisations need cultures where risks are openly discussed, challenged and escalated. And the benefits of being competent to manage risk equally applies to big business and small organisations, both public and private.

So yes, we’re there to support you if you’re a risk and safety professional, but also if you’re in another role and want to play your part in shaping a positive risk culture. So let’s look at how we do this in a little more detail.

Membership

IIRSM membership is our core offering to support you in your professional development and we have developed a range of membership levels to suit the stage you’re at in your journey, from student member to fellow.

IIRSM membership does many things:

  • Demonstrates your level of risk skills, experience and competence

  • Raises your professional profile and influence within a wider risk network
  • Provides richer learning and networking opportunities
  • Develops your influence and profile within and beyond your place of work
  • Empowers you to build career success by learning from others from different industries, risk disciplines and geographical locations

And we help you to do all of the above with a range of member benefits, such as:

  • Our brilliant magazine, The Sentinel
  • Regular updates on developments in the world of risk
  • Professional development opportunities to boost your career
  • Networking opportunities to share, learn and make connections
  • Our brand new mentoring platform for peer-to-peer learning
  • Widely recognised and respected post-nominals
  • And much, much more

Training & Qualifications

Through training and qualifications, we help individuals in all types of role and organisation be more resilient through developing their skills and knowledge on how to identify, manage and communicate risk.

All our training courses are delivered by experienced experts and are linked to our Risk Management and Leadership Competence Framework. They offer CPD points and are relevant to all decision-makers whether you work in a risk role, are responsible for day-to-day operations or lead a key business function.

At the same time, we can approve your risk training course if it meets IIRSM standards. Our training approval brings the value of IIRSM’s independent brand and educational standards together with your expertise to form an attractive and competitive partnership for the delivery of quality training.

Alongside our offer on awareness-raising training courses, we have teamed up with the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) to create the NEBOSH/IIRSM Certificate in Managing Risk. This is a qualification that will help you to build your risk management knowledge and skills, which are highly transferrable, and to progress on your chosen career path.

And if you’re an educational institution, we can accredit your qualification too. This is about aligning your qualification to the professional standards set by a leading international risk and safety body.
