Why ISO Certification is more than just a Certificate

17 Jul, 2019

There is a common misconception that in order to achieve ISO Certification, you just pay a provider and hey presto, you’re certified! However, ISO Certification isn’t about buying a certificate, it’s about changing your business for the better.

What is ISO Certification and why would you want it?

ISO Certification is a seal of approval from an external body like ourselves that you comply with one of the internationally recognised ISO management standards.

There are many reasons why you may want to adopt a management system.  They can help increase your success in tenders, improve internal efficiency, reduce costs and/or simply prove to your potential customers that you are credible.

Each management standard offers its own benefits for example, ISO 9001 Quality ensures you are delivering a consistent level of quality and satisfaction, ISO 27001 Information Security helps you manage risks to the security of your confidential information and ISO 14001 Environmental reduces your impact on the environment.

What am I required to do?

Whilst ISO Certification can be achieved in as little as 6-8 weeks, management systems focus on continual improvement and requires ongoing commitment for the length of your Certification.

In order to run your management system effectively you will require buy-in from your team.  Effective communication and training is key in order for you to achieve this.

Each year, you are required to undergo a re-certification audit in order to prove compliance to the standard.  Whilst these audits might seem daunting, they are a valuable business tool.  They are an opportunity to drive your management system forward, enabling continuous improvement and therefore allowing you to get the most out of your management standard.

Here at ISO Quality Services we undertake a six monthly internal review, helping you to feel more supported and confident when your annual audit approaches.  Whether you are new to ISO Certification or not, our internal reviews are a benefit to your business, helping to improve your understanding of what is expected.

I want to better my business, what should I do now?

ISO 9001 is a popular place to start but you can choose another standard (there are more than 22,000) or even adopt more than one standard at the same time.
