The challenge of achieving company-wide understanding
When Fleetclear partnered with ISO QSL in 2024, they already had ISO 9001 Quality Management certification with another provider. At the time, they were searching for a trusted local partner who could support their existing certification while also assisting with the implementation of the ISO 27001 Information Security, Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection Management System, which they successfully achieved in December 2024.
Like many businesses, Fleetclear faced a key challenge in ensuring company-wide understanding and adoption of both standards. Without the right knowledge, employees could perceive ISO requirements as an obstacle rather than a tool for efficiency.
Recognising the need for ISO training
To equip employees with the knowledge and confidence to apply these standards effectively in their roles, Fleetclear recognised the need for ISO training and began exploring training options for ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 and the best approach for their team.
We spoke with Chris Fletcher, Quality and Compliance Manager at Fleetclear, who oversees the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and ensures compliance with ISO 9001, as well as the Department for Transport regulations while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
Chris explains: “Ensuring that the Fleetclear team understood where both standards apply to their job roles was a challenge. We wanted to make sure the standards weren’t seen as a hindrance, but as a tool to make their jobs easier”.
Why bespoke training?
With 17 employees needing ISO training, Fleetclear opted for bespoke, classroom-style training rather than online or public training. This approach was not only the most cost-effective but also allowed the training to be tailored specifically to their business needs.
Before the training, Fleetclear provided Trainer, Dan Pemberton, with an overview of their processes, procedures and trainees’ job roles, ensuring the content was relevant. This tailored approach created a more engaging learning experience, enabling delegates to ask in-depth questions that directly related to their role.
Chris comments: “The training offers learners a better understanding of specific topics and the ability to ask in-depth questions”.
Training experience and key takeaways
Fleetclear wasted no time applying their newly acquired knowledge and skills, implementing improvements the very next day. Employees were able to directly relate the training to their daily tasks, leading to a noticeable improvement in the team’s awareness and understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 27001.
Trainer, Dan Pemberton, reflected on his experience working with Fleetclear: “It was a pleasure to deliver ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 management training to Fleetclear. Their team were highly engaged and eager to understand how ISO standards benefit their daily operations. The bespoke training approach allowed us to focus on their specific challenges, ensuring that every participant left with a clear understanding of how to apply ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 effectively. It was great to see their enthusiasm and how quickly they put their learning into practice“.
Before the training, employees often questioned the relevance of ISO standards to their specific roles. While this question hasn’t entirely disappeared, the team now recognises how the standards apply to their responsibilities.
Chris explains: “The team understands and can appreciate where my answers come from, particularly when I answer their questions using the standards as a reference. They have a better understanding of the Standards and want to know how they can best apply them within their team”.
Exceeding expectations
Fleetclear had high expectations for the training, but the results exceeded them.
“Following our initial conversations, my expectations of the course were high. However, I have been surprised by the team’s acceptance and appreciation when we have discussed changes and improvements. One of the most valuable aspects of the training was the dedicated time to address specific challenges raised by the team”.
Without hesitation, Fleetclear would recommend ISO QSL’s bespoke ISO training to other companies looking to enhance their team’s understanding and awareness of compliance standards.
Chris concluded: “The training provides learners with the knowledge and skills to use the standards to the advantage of their job and the company. Most importantly, it supports the principle of continuous improvement”.
Fleetclear’s success highlights how tailored ISO training can enhance team engagement, improve compliance, identify opportunities for improvement and embed ISO standards into daily operations. By investing in training, Fleetclear has empowered its employees with the confidence and expertise to apply ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 effectively, ensuring ongoing success and continuous improvement.
