Our View: SSAFA, The Armed Forces Charity

4 May, 2021

Congratulations to the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity, SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, which has recently achieved ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification.

SSAFA has been supporting our service men and women (regulars and reserves), veterans and their families for over 136 years now. Its teams of trained welfare advisors and volunteers will work with each person to give them the practical, financial and emotional support they need, ranging from financial hardship and family breakdown, to housing and welfare support.

After being awarded a contract with the Ministry of Defence (MOD)  to deliver Community Healthcare to entitled Personnel and their families in Cyprus, SSAFA required ISO 9001 certification and approached ISO Quality Services for support.  SSAFA’s Controller, Sir Andrew Gregory  says: “Achieving ISO 9001 Certification was of great importance to the SSAFA Community Healthcare (CHC) Service in Cyprus. It provides our patients, service users and Commissioners with the confidence and assurance that SSAFA (CHC) has a Quality Management System (QMS) that is internationally recognised and aligned with best practice.  ISO QSL guided and supported us throughout the certification process”.

From their initial assessment, it was evident that the Charity already had good processes in place and that they would be a really good organisation to work with.  Rick Allard, Lead Assessor comments: “I have been engaged with SSAFA since September 2020 for the purpose of ISO Certification.  During that time, I have found them to be very professional, well organised and committed to their cause of providing support to the serving men and women and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependents.

They have proven themselves to be a good and reliable working partner and a very positive contributor to the arena of ISO Quality Management”.

Lauren Kebby, Account Manager adds: “It has been a pleasure working thus far with SSAFA, they are keen to ensure the ISO is rolled out and used to its fullest potential, ensuring everything is delivered to a high level and no corner is left unturned.

I look forward to continuing to work with SSAFA through their certification and seeing them grow and use the system for what it is there for”.
