Safety failings blamed for worker’s injury
A West Yorkshire firm has been fined after an employee had a thumb and finger shattered when his hand was drawn into dangerous moving parts of a printing press.
The employee, 55, needed a skin graft and had to have his left thumb and index finger pinned under a bandage for several months after the incident at the firm in Castleford on 27 February 2012.
The employee, of Tingley, was cleaning a letter press printing machine when his left hand was drawn into a half-inch nip point between a large impression drum and a roller.
HSE found that a guard covering the nip point had been removed two years earlier and no checks were made to ensure guards were in place before the machine was used. The firm had identified that the machine could be operated without guards in place, but failed to take action to address the hazard.
“Unguarded or poorly guarded machinery is the cause of many injuries in workplaces across the country. In 2010/11 over 1,000 people were seriously injured from contact with dangerous moving parts of machines.
The above demonstrates the importance that having a good health and safety management systems in place. A health and safety management system ensures robust procedures are in place in a business’s areas of highest risk

Our audit department is changing…
We always take feedback from our clients seriously and we have noticed that a lot of you may not really understand how the email and telephone support our audit department can be utilised to the best of your advantage. Therefore, we have decided that this department is going to undergo some re-branding!
As of January 2013 this will be known as our Client Relationship Management Department, a title which we feel properly represents what this department does and can do you for. Our team are very knowledgeable and happy to assist with any query big or small!

Internal Auditor Training Alert!
Due to high demand we are going to be holding an Internal Auditor Training Course on the 5th and 6th February 2013 at our new training facilities in our new head office, Worcester.
This is a 2 day course which will cover the theory behind internal auditing as well as a practical audit experience and debrief at a local company. Places are limited and on a first come first serve basis and will be charged at £395.00 plus VAT per delegate (reductions for multi delegate bookings available).

We are delighted to announce the official opening of ISO Quality Services Limited’s new offices in St Johns, Worcester was held on Thursday 22nd November 2012.
The offices were opened by Jerry Blackett, CEO of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, for whom we are very grateful and thankful too, that he could attend our special event. Jerry said on the evening “ISO Quality Services Limited is an SME of the future. The services and structure the company provides helps other SME’s also to become the future of the country. By expanding into these new premises it further evidences the commitment of the directors of the company to their plans of ongoing expansion of the business.’
Peter C. Appleton, Managing Director of ISO Quality Services Ltd, said ‘ We are very pleased and excited to be able to celebrate the opening of these new offices with our employees and work associates. This is a big step for the company in its plans for extensive growth over the next 5 years. I would like to personally thank every one that celebrated our special evening with us’.
The event was attended by over 40 business associates and was catered by local company Red Hen Cookery.
