Golfers Drive Success at Our Charity Event

8 Jul, 2021

Just like last year, we didn’t let the pandemic stop us from holding our biggest charity event of the year, our golf day.  We’ve been running the event in aid of Midlands Air Ambulance for several years now and despite the pandemic and afternoon downpour, it didn’t disappoint.

You might be surprised to learn that the Midlands Air Ambulance is the largest air ambulance operation region in the UK, covering Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire and provides secondary cover to Warwickshire and Mid Wales.  Yet the Charity does not receive Government funding, relying purely on donations.

As it costs the Charity over £10 million a year to maintain this crucial service, events like our golf day are essential to the Charity.  This is of even greater importance now, with many charities feeling the pressure from the pandemic after fundraising events were cancelled and shops were closed.

We kicked off the day with bacon butties before the teams started making their way down to the course where each golfer gave it their best shot.  Everyone enjoyed the day, despite the torrential downpour and before we knew it, it was time for a delicious two course meal, to announce the winners and give out the raffle prizes.

A huge well done to our winners of the day; Phil Price, Gareth Andrew (Haines Watts) and Adam McElroy (SJL Insurance) who were crowned our top three golfers, Lee Gavin (SJL Insurance) won longest drive and Mark Pinches, nearest pin – well done all!

We raised an impressive £1,200 from the day and an additional £300 was donated by ourselves to bring the final total to £1,500.  This amount has exceeded the previous years, so we are really grateful to everyone who took part and donated prizes.

We would like to give a special thank you to our golfers and raffle prize donors; Cottage in the Woods, SB Print, Browns at the Quay, Bransford Golf Club, Auto K, Laurance at Distinctly Gin and Phil Price.  Without them, the day wouldn’t have been such a great success and we very much look forward to seeing you all again next year.
