A University Graduate’s Experience – Rebecca Bennett’s Story

12 Jan, 2015

Rebecca joined ISO Quality Services Ltd in the summer of 2014 as a Graduate Client Relationship Administrator. Since her appointment Rebecca has flourished in her role and is already an integral member of the team. Here in her own words is Rebecca’s story since her graduation.

In preparation for joining the world of work I embarked upon a Law degree at Oxford Brookes University, where I attained a 2:1.

The work I had to undertake was perfect as it required a lot of research to ensure my answers were accurate, team work to put forward a case/argument in the more practical sessions and good people skills when working with a lot of strongly minded people.

I feel this gave me a great insight into all the different aspects of a work place, but the focus on people skills was immense as the pressure to get things ‘right’, in law, is very strong – although morally what you argue may not be ‘right’ you still have to support your cause with evidence.

Once I had completed my degree I began looking for work ,although I had many part time jobs through-out my time at university I found gaining full time employment difficult, but eventually I was employed as a full time Teaching Assistant and worked with Special Needs children and ran a Wrap Around Care facility in a local primary school.

Following on from this I felt I needed to utilise my academic skills further, this was when I came across ISO Quality Services Limited’s vacancy.

Once I had met some of the team and seen what they do the strong family values and level of support seemed perfect for me.

Also the job roll was ideal as I would be working with a lot of documentation, and due to my degree and A-levels I felt very confident dealing with the ‘proof reading’ element of it all, as well as creation (being a perfectionist has its perks when it comes to creating new documents too!)

So far at ISO Quality Services Limited, I have had a lot of training which has aided me in my role as Graduate Client Relationship Administrator.

Days spent on telephone technique, being an effective team member and first aid training are but a few which have helped me to develop my position and feel like I can be a strong member of the client relationship department.

ISOQSL Main TM Register LogoAs demonstrated, graduates can benefit greatly from companies such as ourselves implementing graduate schemes.

That being said, the companies who have implemented the schemes can also benefit.

First and foremost, in completing a university degree, a graduate has had to display dedication and a strong work ethic, both of which are important in the workplace.

Secondly, for companies looking to employ graduates, there are several funding opportunities that businesses can apply for.

These can act as an incentive to businesses but also help reduce the risks involved with employing someone new.

If you would like to receive more information regarding the implementation of a graduate scheme, the funding available or maybe you would like to hear more from Rebecca then please initially email our Operations Director, Jennifer Appleton on jennifer@isoqsltd.com.
