Research has indeed provided evidence that displaying logos, even if the consumer does not know what they are for, will increase their trust in a company.
Other motives for achieving certificates include that it provides marketing opportunities or because it is a requirement placed upon them but is this making the most out of it?
This practice is something that here at ISO Quality Services, we endeavour to avoid. This is not to say that they cannot be used as a great marketing tool but ISO Certification is not there just to illustrate what a company has achieved.
The internationally recognised Standards are there as a future promise and commitment to their existing and potential customers.
ISO Certification should never just be a ‘tick box’ exercise, when implemented correctly they can benefit companies in numerous ways and not just in terms of revenue.
A Key element of the ISO Management Standards is the emphasis on continual improvement, an example being the maintenance of training records. This in part ensures that there is a level of continuity in terms of the level of customer service given by the company.
Every employee knowing how to carry out their job leads on to an additional benefit as ensuring they are properly trained will improve employee morale and motivation.
This is because they will know exactly how to carry out their job without fear of being reprimanded.
An illustration of this is when an employee is faced with a customer complaint. Effectively trained employees will be able to resolve the situation quickly and without fuss.
This in turn will create a positive perception of the company in the eyes of the customer which could ultimately lead to them recommending the company as they feel valued and looked after.
Therefore as a result of a focus on continual improvement there will be an increase in revenue but this is inextricably linked to the improvement in customer satisfaction and employee morale.
The one big strength with ISO Certification is that it can be achieved by any organisation, irrespective of their size.
This means that whether they are a huge multinational company or a small start-up business, they are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality and a strong customer focus.
There are of course more industry specific ISO Management standards but the core standards can be achieved by any organisation. The most popular being:
These can be implemented by any organisation and can prove invaluable when implemented with the backing of the whole organisation.
There are 3 main groups which can benefit, those running the company, employees and existing/potential customers. These benefits include:
